Leanwise

Terms of Use

Last updated: July 20, 2026

These Terms are between you and Extant 2000 LLC, a Virginia limited liability company ("Extant 2000", "we", "us"), which operates Leanwise — the leanwise.app website and the Leanwise browser extensions. By using Leanwise you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. Availability — United States only

Leanwise is offered only to persons located in the United States. Access from outside the United States is blocked, and the service is not directed to or intended for individuals in any other country.

2. What Leanwise is — and what it is not

Leanwise aggregates campaign-finance and lobbying records published by the U.S. Federal Election Commission and the U.S. Senate Office of Public Records, and presents them by company. It exists to inform the public about the flow of money in politics — it is an informational, public-interest research tool, provided free of charge.

Leanwise shows only aggregate totals. It does not display, store, or provide individual contributor records — no donor names, addresses, occupations, or per-person giving histories. Contributions are summed to the recipient committee before they are ever saved, so no contributor list exists here to search, export, or obtain.

Money flow is not endorsement. A contribution associated with a company does not mean the company, its leadership, or its employees endorse any candidate, party, or position. Employee contributions are individual acts, not corporate positions.

Leanwise is expressly not:

3. Accuracy and matching limits

Leanwise matches donations to companies by name, and that matching is fuzzy. Similar company names, subsidiaries, parent companies, common employer strings, and misspellings in the source filings all produce imperfect results. Records may be incomplete, stale, or wrong.

Verify anything that matters against the primary sources before relying on it. We provide the service on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose.

4. Data sources and attribution

Underlying records come from the FEC OpenFEC API and the Senate LDA API. Those are U.S. government public records. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the FEC, the U.S. Senate, or any government body. We cannot correct source records — corrections must be made at the source.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may rate-limit, block, or discontinue access at any time, including to protect the service or the upstream government APIs it depends on.

6. The browser extension

The Leanwise extensions are licensed to you for personal use. They send the hostname of your active tab to our servers to look up that company — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what is and is not transmitted. You may uninstall at any time, which ends all data transmission and removes the extension's local cache.

7. Intellectual property

The Leanwise name, interface, and original content are owned by Extant 2000 LLC. The underlying government records are public domain and not claimed by us. You may cite and quote Leanwise output with attribution.

8. No fees

Leanwise is currently provided free of charge. There is no account, no subscription, and no payment. We may change this in the future, but we will not begin charging for access you already have without notice.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Extant 2000 LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your reliance on information presented by Leanwise. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Changes to the service or these Terms

We may modify or discontinue Leanwise, in whole or in part, at any time. If we change these Terms we will update the date at the top, and material changes will be noted on the site. Continuing to use Leanwise after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Fairfax County, Virginia, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
